The Beauty Hack: Why You Should Be Washing Your Face With Carbonated Water

Jan 10, 2024

Tired skin?

At NAYA, we swear by the mineral water trick for a radiantly fresh look. We tell you why you should wash your face with mineral water in the morning instead

MINERAL WATER FOR FIRM SKIN?

If you want to give your face a freshness boost, you should definitely take a look at the beauty routine of Korean women. They use sparkling water to cleanse their faces, which strengthens the cells between the collagen fibres, making the skin look plumper and firmer. The bubbles also stimulate blood circulation. Still water cannot achieve this effect.

The Miracle Ingredient for Glowing skin

A pore-clean, even complexion. The Koreans have long sworn by this trick. If you can already see yourself in the bathroom, bending your head at an angle over the sink and pouring San Pellegrino over it with one hand: it doesn't have to be that decadent. Rather, Asian women use a bubbly facial after their cleansing, dipping the face for about ten seconds into a bowl half filled with carbonated water, half with normal tap water.

What does Carbonated Water do?

Cleansing with mineral water acts like a gentle peeling. The carbonic acid bubbles act like microbrushes that remove dead skin flakes and cleanse pores deep. The small bubbles stimulate the blood circulation and the skin receives an extra portion of oxygen. You can look forward to a clear, even and firm complexion. Even unsightly puffy eyes from the last party night are quickly reduced by the mineral water.

STEP-BY-STEP INSTRUCTIONS

You do not have to wash your face exclusively with store-bought water. It is perfectly sufficient to mix tap water with mineral water in a large bowl in a 1:1 ratio. Then immerse the face in the morning for ten seconds. Tip: If you're in a hurry, we simply use a cotton pad soaked in mineral water. Gently dab the skin with it, don't rub!

I am using a carbonater, filter my water using a Brita Filter and use this to wetten a cotton pad to cleanse my face in the morning. Quick and easy!

In Summary

When I tell people I wash my face with bottled water, I’m usually met with an eye roll or a scoff or a flat-out accusation of being unnecessarily “extra.” But I feel no shame for this bougie indulgence and overall - it isn't even an indulgence and not really that bougie.

For those with sensitive skin, cleansing with filtered water may actually be a necessity. That’s because, depending on where you live, the water that comes out of your shower or bathroom sink is potentially filled with harsh minerals that clog your pores, dry out your skin, and incite breakouts of acne and eczema.

Try using carbonated water in the morning and let us know how it goes.
