Natural, Bio-Identical or Biomimetic?

Ingredient Integrity: Beyond “Natural

"Natural” sounds reassuring—but it isn’t a guarantee of efficacy, purity or consistency. At NAYA, true skin health comes from the synergy of three pillars: natural ingredients, bio-identical molecules your skin recognises, and biomimetic actives that mimic nature’s own processes. We call this Ingredient Integrity—clarity about where ingredients come from and why they’re chosen to achieve your skin focus.

Natural

Directly obtained from plants, minerals or microorganisms. Rich in nutrients and biodiversity. Examples: Cacay oil, Aloe vera.

Bio-identical

Lab-made yet chemically identical to what exists in nature or the body. Chosen for purity, stability and compatibility. Examples: Niacinamide, Hyaluronic acid, Zinc oxide.

Biomimetic

Designed to imitate natural processes via the key-and-lock principle. Targeted innovation where plants alone can’t deliver. Examples: Peptides (Matrixyl, Argireline) & co.

Why we are different

FAQs

Short answer: we’re neither a strict “natural” brand nor a buzzword-driven “clean” brand.

Skin needs more than one label, so we use three pillars:

  • Natural: plant/mineral ingredients when they’re the best choice.
  • Bio-identical: lab-made but chemically identical to what skin/nature already knows—chosen for purity, stability and sensitivity.
  • Biomimetic: actives designed to mimic natural processes for targeted results.

Rather than chase labels, we publish what we use and why so you can decide if it resonates. Learn more on our Ingredient Integrity page. This is what a science-driven brand focused on skin wellbeing looks like—not one shoe-horned into a single category. Because terms like “natural” or “clean” aren’t legally defined, brands use them differently. What matters is whether a brand’s approach aligns with you.

Lab-made, molecule-for-molecule identical to what exists in nature or your skin (e.g., niacinamide, hyaluronic acid). This delivers purity, stability and compatibility—great for sensitive skin.

A note on claims like “100% natural”: in modern skincare that’s rare; most formulas include bio-identicals such as niacinamide, hyaluronic acid or glycerin for performance and consistency.

Actives designed to imitate a natural pathway (the key-and-lock idea). They’re not found in nature in that exact form, but your skin recognises the “message” (e.g., peptide complexes or a peptide blend).

“Clean” has no single legal definition. Our approach:

  • Transparent ingredients and rational formulating.
  • No fear-based marketing.
  • Evidence-led choices that balance efficacy, tolerance and sustainability.

Sensitive skin has been our focus at NAYA since day 1. And it is not a trend for us but reality.

We choose skin-kind solvents, buffers and bio-identicals, keep potential irritants low, and recommend a patch test for reactive skin.

We do not test on animals and comply with EU/UK cosmetic testing bans. Our formulas are vegan-friendly (no animal-derived raw materials).

Logos can blur reality. Some certifiers allow “nature-identical” lab materials under a “natural” umbrella. We prioritise full transparency over a single stamp—hence Ingredient Integrity.

Certifications are paid licensing schemes; transparency to consumers matters more to us than badges.

They’re cosmetic-grade, selected for purity and skin compatibility. Hence, we are saying we are pharmaceutical-grade. We avoid drug-like claims and formulate within cosmetic regulations. As always, patch test if you’re sensitive.

We may use modern organic filters based on performance, photostability and tolerability. “Reef-safe” isn’t legally defined; we avoid legacy filters like oxybenzone/octinoxate and design with low-irritancy, high-stability in mind. Industry testing is evolving and occasional product withdrawals happen—another reason we value rigorous, ongoing evaluation—without naming or speculating about other brands.

Where a % is clinically meaningful or helpful for comparison, we share it. Otherwise, we explain the role and category (natural / bio-identical / biomimetic) and formulate at effective, skin-tolerant levels. Our formulations and complexes are proprietary blends—protecting them protects our IP. But absolutely, we do disclose levels for ingredients like Retinol, Retinal .

Many ingredients are compatible; retinoids are generally not recommended during pregnancy/breastfeeding. And please consult your healthcare provider if you want to confirm.

We avoid fear lists and focus on formulation science. Practically, we don’t formulate with formaldehyde donors, oxybenzone/octinoxate, or animal-derived raw materials. You can learn more about our No-No List here.
