Why you need to adjust exfoliating during Spring

Avoid over-exfoliating in Spring - and this is why

Exfoliation Adjustments and Reduced Frequency

As the seasons change, so should your skincare routine! Spring brings warmer weather and increased sun exposure, both of which require adjustments to your exfoliation habits.

Chemical Exfoliation for Gentle Removal of Dead Skin Cells

When it comes to exfoliation in spring, opt for gentle chemical exfoliants instead of harsh scrubs with beads. Chemical exfoliants work by dissolving dead skin cells, revealing a brighter and smoother complexion.

Reduce Exfoliation Frequency in Spring

While you may have exfoliated 2-3 times a week during winter to remove dry skin, reduce that frequency to 1-2 times a week in spring. This is because:

  • Increased Sun Sensitivity: Spring brings stronger UV rays. Over-exfoliation can leave your skin more sensitive, making it prone to sunburn and irritation.
  • Natural Moisture Barrier Restoration: As the weather warms, your skin's natural sebum production increases. This helps restore your skin's natural moisture barrier. Excessive exfoliation can disrupt this process.

Finding Balance: Don't Over-exfoliate!

Exfoliation is important, but too much can be counterproductive. Over-exfoliation can strip your skin of its natural oils, leading to increased oil production to compensate. This can cause an imbalance and make your skin feel oilier.

Skin Cycling for Balanced Exfoliation

Skin cycling is a skincare routine that incorporates dedicated exfoliation days to remove dead skin cells, followed by recovery days to allow your skin to repair itself. This approach helps maintain healthy, balanced skin. Skin cycling is something I'd suggest to people with sensitive skin or simply want to follow a routine. It is a great way to get into the rhythm of an effective skincare routine.

Spring Skincare Tip: Let Your Skin's Natural Moisture Shine

As spring arrives, your skin's natural moisturizing mechanisms kick in, increasing sebum production. This is a positive sign! By reducing your exfoliation frequency, you allow these natural processes to function optimally, keeping your skin hydrated.
