NAYA's Skincare Layering

A Step-by-Step Guide: How to Layer Your Skincare Products

We often get asked, “How do I layer my skincare products correctly?”

While the general rule of thumb is to apply products from the lightest to the richest texture, we understand that the process can still feel confusing.

Whether you’re new to skincare or already well-versed, this guide walks you step-by-step through how to layer your skincare the NAYA way — from Cleanse, Prep, and Treat, to Restore and Protect.

Our layering concept is designed to empower you with the knowledge and confidence to optimise your routine for both comfort and effectiveness.

NAYA EVERYDAY Skincare RITUAL

Cleansing is a foundational step in any routine. A well-formulated cleanser removes impurities, excess sebum, makeup and sunscreen without disrupting the skin barrier, creating a clean canvas for the steps that follow.

Starting with an oil-based cleanser is particularly effective for dissolving makeup, SPF and daily build-up.

How to use:

Apply 4–5 pumps to dry skin with dry hands. Massage gently in circular motions. Add water to emulsify, then rinse thoroughly

After cleansing, it’s beneficial to help the skin’s microbiome and hydration balance reset. Applying an essence or toner can support this process and prepare the skin for active treatments.

Depending on the formulation, prep products may help balance the microbiome, strengthen the skin barrier or support overall skin health.

If you have specific concerns around the eye area, you may wish to use a dedicated eye product. If not, your serum or moisturiser can often provide sufficient hydration.

A note of care:

The skin around the eyes is thinner and more delicate, making it more susceptible to dehydration and mechanical stress. Gentle application and appropriate textures are key. If you’re prone to milia, avoid heavy or overly occlusive products in this area.

How to use:

Press around half a pump gently along the orbital bone using small, controlled circular motions. Avoid dragging or pulling the skin.

Serums are highly concentrated formulations designed to address specific skin concerns. They are typically fast-absorbing and formulated to penetrate more deeply into the skin.

How to use:

While the skin is still slightly damp from the prep step, press 2–3 drops into the face, neck and décolletage. To support absorption, use gentle pressing motions rather than rubbing.

If layering multiple serums, choose complementary formulas and allow around 30 seconds between layers to reduce the risk of pilling and allow each layer to absorb properly.

Moisturisers help maintain hydration, reinforce the skin barrier and seal in active ingredients.

Apply to face, neck and décolletage morning and evening.

If you prefer to use a face oil, apply it after your moisturiser or mix a few drops into your cream. Oils can penetrate moisturisers, but not the other way around — which is why oil should always be the final nourishing step.

How to use oil:

Apply a small amount (around half a dropper) and gently press into the skin using upward and outward motions.

SPF should always be the final step in your morning routine. It protects the skin from UV-related damage and helps preserve the benefits of your skincare.

How to use:

Apply 2–4 pumps to the face and neck, using more if applying to the décolletage.

Exfoliation (2–3 times per week)

Exfoliation supports the natural shedding of dead skin cells and can enhance the performance of active ingredients — provided the skin barrier is healthy.

Apply after cleansing to damp skin. Leave on as directed, then massage gently and rinse. If your skin is reactive or compromised, exfoliation should be reduced or paused.

Masks (2–3 times per week)

Apply a generous layer to cleansed, dry skin. Avoid the eye and lip area. Leave on for 15–20 minutes, then gently massage and rinse with warm water.
