Change from Conventional to natural skincare

Switching from conventional to natural cosmetics is not always easy. The best thing is that you are doing your skin good in the long term.

We are passionate about sharing knowledge about our skin, its functions and needs to help you find the perfect products for your skin.

Whether you're already using your new cosmetics or still thinking about switching your routine, I've got some good answers to possible questions for you here:

  • When does it make sense to switch from conventional to natural cosmetics?
  • How long does it take the skin to get used to natural care?
  • What is the best way to switch from conventional to natural skin care?
  • Can there be initial aggravation after the switch?
  • Dry skin after switching to natural cosmetics?

WHEN DOES IT MAKE SENSE TO SWITCH FROM CONVENTIONAL TO NATURAL COSMETICS?

As a company that produces natural and effective skincare, we are not entirely unbiased when it comes to answering this question. Of course, we want to get as many people as possible to look at their own skin and its needs. Because that's the only way we can all understand what good skin care should contain and what we should rather not let get to our skin.

The skin is our outer protective shield. It fends off bacteria, viruses and germs, helps regulate our body temperature and stabilises the moisture balance. At the same time, it is constantly exposed to various environmental influences that put a strain on it. Heat, cold, humidity, sunlight and air purity are just a few factors that challenge our largest organ.

Ingredients such as sulphates, silicones or paraffins in cosmetics, for example, only put additional stress on the skin instead of really caring for it. That is why it is so important that we understand how exactly the individual active ingredients in skincare products work, what benefits they have for the skin and above all: how they support it.

That's why switching from conventional to natural cosmetics is the first stop to skin wellbeing.

HOW LONG DOES IT TAKE THE SKIN TO GET USED TO NATURAL SKINCARE?

If you have just started using your new skincare, be patient until you notice a difference. The adjustment can sometimes take an entire regeneration cycle. A skin cycle lasts about 28 days, but later in life it gets longer.

The skin renews itself through the constant formation of new basal cells in the lowest layer of the epidermis. You can see this process clearly in the diagram. The cells above the basal cells are continuously pushed upwards by the renewal. Once they reach the surface of the skin, the cells are dried out and form the horny layer before they are finally shed. It may sound a bit disgusting at first, but it is completely natural.

WHAT IS THE BEST WAY TO MAKE THE SWITCH FROM CONVENTIONAL TO NATURAL SKIN CARE?

The best way to make the switch is to gently get your skin used to the new skincare. Especially for sensitive and stressed skin, the best way is to gradually introduce the new products. It is important that you use the products regularly and avoid additional irritating products.

If you use active ingredients, such as Retinol, first use them 1-3 times a week to get your skin used to them. Especially if you have no previous experience with active ingredients in your skincare, don't rush it. The Renew Cacay Oil + A helps your skin to regenerate faster, because the dead skin layer can be removed more quickly.

CAN THERE BE AN INITIAL AGGRAVATION AFTER THE CHANGE?

Does your skin react with blemishes to the new care? If you have had blemishes or acne before, you may experience a worsening of your skin condition at first. But don't worry and be patient. This could be because the new ingredients you are using are speeding up your skin renewal. This is how "hidden pimples" come to the surface of the skin, because the skin cleans itself first, so to speak. Redness, feelings of tightness or peeling of the skin are also side effects of new, active ingredients. Especially with retinol, this initial aggravation can occur due to the stimulated effect in the skin. Observe your skin and give it a little time to get used to the new care. If you are unsure whether you tolerate the product, please contact our Customer Care Team or a dermatologist.

DRY SKIN AFTER SWITCHING TO NATURAL COSMETICS?

Dry skin is usually caused by a weakened skin barrier and damaged connective tissue. This can be triggered, for example, by sulphates and silicones in many conventional products. Especially in the case of silicone, the skin must first get used to care without the substance, because in a certain way the skin can become dependent on the protective silicone film. It basically replaces the skin's protective barrier, which is damaged underneath. One of the consequences of this is that water-soluble active ingredients can penetrate deeper layers of the skin more quickly and trigger irritations there.

So if you switch your skin to natural cosmetics and it thanks you with dry patches, care for it with products that strengthen the skin's protective barrier and supply it with moisture. The Everyday Face Oil and Hydration Mask help the skin do just that. And with Cacay Beauty Oil, you boost regeneration and help the skin retain moisture at the same time.

So the motto for your switch to natural cosmetics is patience, patience, patience. Don't change your whole routine right away, get your skin used to each product slowly and give it time to accept the effects and wean itself off the previous conventional ingredients.
