NAYA's Holistic Beauty Approach

Global Wellness Day

At NAYA we see beauty holistically; the belief that true beauty is based on inner balance, health and well-being. We look at the whole picture and see skincare as a means of prevention so we can care for the skin’s specific needs with our tailored products and treatments. It’s no secret that the right combination of exercise, a balanced diet, sleep and an individually tailored skincare regime can deliver significant well-being benefits. This in turn is reflected in the skin through a beautifully radiant, glowing complexion. The results? You will benefit from more energy, balance and beauty in your life. Discover how to create an inner and outer beauty that lasts.

What does Radiant Skin mean?

Is there a secret recipe for radiant, healthy, and clear skin—and if so, what is it? The good news is that no matter how old you are or how you've lived so far, you can significantly improve your skin’s appearance.

The first step is switching to completely natural skincare that respects your sensitive microbiome and protects your skin barrier. However, skincare products alone are never solely responsible for good skin. Erasing wrinkles, reducing pigmentation spots, healing acne—no matter what advertisements promise, no product in the world can regenerate your skin permanently if a fundamental, internal issue is causing these symptoms.

If you want great skin, you have to think holistically. This means you might need to adjust your lifestyle, as food intolerances, an unbalanced diet, hormonal imbalances, and stress can affect your skin just as much as improper skincare.

Let's Look at the Basics

First, let’s look at how skin damage occurs. A young, healthy skin cell renews itself about once a month by simply creating a copy of itself. In place of the old cell, an identical new one is formed.

Aging begins when cell division slows down, or cells lose their ability to replicate exactly. Telomeres play a crucial role in this process.

Telomeres are like small protective caps that sit on the ends of chromosome strands, holding them together. Each time a cell divides, the telomeres become shorter—until they can no longer stabilise the chromosome strands. At this point, cell damage can occur, which in the worst case, may lead to abnormal cell changes, such as cancer.

To prevent this, the cell either dies or is shut down by the body—it remains, but can no longer renew itself—in other words, we age. This brings us to the question: Can telomere length be improved and the cellular aging process slowed down? The good news is: Yes, it can. How? Keep reading.

What happens when we age?

The structural proteins collagen and elastin decrease over time. Elastin keeps the skin supple, while collagen plumps it from within and helps retain moisture. When collagen and elastin decrease, the skin's support framework weakens, making it thinner and less able to retain moisture, leading to wrinkles. In addition to wrinkles and loss of volume, uneven pigmentation (melasma) is a key sign of skin aging.

Can you turn back time on skin damage?

Genetic aging of the skin can’t be entirely avoided, but you can influence how quickly and intensely this process occurs. Oxidative stress, caused by free radicals, prematurely damages cells and accelerates skin aging. The main culprits include UV radiation, environmental toxins like fine dust, lack of sleep, stress, and an unbalanced or inadequate diet.

Studies show that people who consume sufficient amounts of vitamins B12, C, E, and D3, as well as zinc, iron, magnesium, folic acid, and omega-3 fatty acids, have longer telomeres than those who are deficient in these vitamins and nutrients. Additionally, individuals who exercise regularly and engage in physical activity also have longer telomeres. And finally, high-quality skincare can protect the telemores from degrading. The conclusion: proper nutrition, regular exercise and high-quality skincare have a proven slow-aging effect.

How can you achieve all this?

  • Incorporating anti-inflammatory skin foods rich in cell-protecting antioxidants
  • Effectively reducing stress hormones
  • Improving sleep, which helps your skin regenerate
  • Introduce high-quality skincare in your everyday skincare routine
  • Taking time for yourself

Let's look at some of those in some detail.

Nutrition

A varied and balanced diet is the first step toward healthy skin. If you are not giving your body the nourishment it needs from the inside, face and body care products can only go so far. Protein, complex carbohydrates, healthy fats, and plenty of fluids, vitamins, and minerals will boost your healthy glow. Pair with a selection of teas to boost your immune defence and support your body’s detoxification processes. You don't need to buy fancy teas. Have a read of our Top Tip below.

NAYA’s Top Tip:

Buy a fresh piece of ginger and a lemon. And make yourself a fresh Ginger Lemon shot each day to get the digestion and detox process kick-started off your body. Drink a ginger and lemon shot each morning to detox the body. Nothing helps fight a looming illness like a cold or flu, combat a lack of energy or brighten a dull complexion better than a shot of freshly pressed ginger with lemon.

Exercise

Physical activity has such a positive impact on our overall well-being and mental performance and is essential to maintaining a healthy lifestyle. With daily exercise blood flow is improved, toxins are released from the body and muscles are strengthened.

The benefits of physical activity can also be enhanced with the right skincare. Formulated with a powerful combination of active plant ingredients, natural oils and mineral salts our Aura Essence provides the perfect post-workout care to strengthen to fascia and activate lymphatic flow in your face. It also stimulates the skin's own collagen synthesis and strengthens.

NAYA’s Top Tip:

Keeping active is an important part of a healthy, balanced lifestyle. Dedicate just 25 minutes of your day to a short power walk, pilates or yoga class. After your shower or warm bath, apply our Aura Essence with an I LOVE YOU Massage - which is a combination of motions to activate lymphatic flow and relieve muscle tension.

Sleep

Getting plenty of sleep is vital to maintaining a healthy lifestyle. When we sleep, our body regenerates, processes stress and fights off illness. It is recommended we have at least seven hours of sleep each night, for healthy skin, body and mind.

NAYA’s Top Tip:

Keep all electronic devices such as phones, tablets and televisions outside of the bedroom. If you do not have elsewhere to put them, make sure they are switched off to avoid electromagnetic waves disturbing your sleep.

Skincare

Following a skin care routine tailored to you and your skin type will keep your skin feeling healthy and protected so you can look and feel your best self. At NAYA, we have a range of unique skincare lines that guarantee highly effective 24-hour skin care, day and night.

We highly recommend applying a face serum day and night after cleansing to boost moisture levels and skin protection. The right serum can help target your specific skin concerns. For congested skin we recommend using our Everyday Glow Serum, or for dehydrated skin types, our Aura Essence. Work the serum into the skin with a gentle facial massage to penetrate the deeper layers of the skin and encourage lymphatic flow.

Top Tip:

After cleansing, apply our Aura Essence paired with our nourishing and protective to lock in moisture. Pop outside for a fresh, brisk morning walk to clear the mind while the products work into the skin and provide a cool firming effect. After your walk, rinse off your mask and moisturise.

Self-Care

We love to pair a replenishing mask with a relaxing bath. The wonderful thing about bathing is that you can personalise your bath depending on what your physical or mental needs are.

The Perfect At-Home Ritual: Start off by pouring yourself a luxurious bath and adding 5-7 spoons of epsom salt and a few drops of lavender oil (only if you like, not required) to nourish and to soothe your body after a long and busy week. It can also be used as a detoxifying foot bath or facial scrub, to sooth irritation for the perfect end of week reboot.
