Ingredient Integrity in Skincare: Natural, Bio-Identical & Biomimetic

Natural when it serves the skin.
Bio-identical when compatibility and purity matter.
Biomimetic when science can support the skin more precisely.

“Natural” sounds reassuring. But it is not a guarantee of effectiveness, tolerance, or even quality.

At NAYA, we formulate beyond labels.

We choose ingredients based on how well your skin can recognise, tolerate, and use them - whether they are natural, bio-identical, or biomimetic.

Our Formulation Pillars

Natural - when nature offers the best answer

We use botanical oils, plant extracts, and naturally derived ingredients where they provide real benefit - hydration, nourishment, antioxidant support, and skin comfort.

Not because they are “natural”.

But because they work.

Bio-identical - when your skin needs familiarity

Some of the most effective ingredients are identical to what your skin already produces.

These include lipids, hydration factors, and key functional molecules.

Bio-identical ingredients are:

  • highly compatible
  • well tolerated
  • and easily recognised by the skin

They allow us to support the skin without disrupting it.

Biomimetic - when precision matters

Biomimetic ingredients are designed to mimic or support the skin’s natural processes.

This includes peptides, advanced actives, and targeted innovations that help:

  • strengthen the skin barrier
  • support repair
  • improve resilience over time

They allow us to work with the skin’s biology, not against it.

Any questions? Let us answer them

We are not a strict “natural-only” brand, and we do not rely on vague clean beauty labels.

NAYA formulates through three lenses:

natural, bio-identical, and biomimetic - choosing each ingredient based on what best supports skin health, tolerance, and results.

Certification can be helpful, but it does not always reflect the full picture.

Some standards still allow highly processed or nature-identical materials under a broad “natural” definition.

We prioritise transparency and function over fitting into a single category.

Yes - when used correctly.

These ingredients are selected for compatibility, purity, and cosmetic use.

At NAYA, we formulate within strict cosmetic regulations and always recommend patch testing for sensitive skin.en for purity, stability and sensitivity.

  • Biomimetic: actives designed to mimic natural processes for targeted results.

Rather than chase labels, we publish what we use and why so you can decide if it resonates. Learn more on our Ingredient Integrity page. This is what a science-driven brand focused on skin wellbeing looks like - not one shoe-horned into a single category. Because terms like “natural” or “clean” aren’t legally defined, brands use them differently. What matters is whether a brand’s approach aligns with you.

Because not everything effective exists in nature in a usable or stable form.

Even ingredients often perceived as “natural”, such as mineral UV filters, are highly refined to ensure usability, safety, stability, and performance.

What matters is not whether an ingredient is natural, but how it is processed, formulated, and how the skin responds to it.

Limiting formulations to only natural ingredients would restrict what we can achieve for the skin.

Instead, we combine natural, bio-active, and bio-identical elements - based on what delivers the best outcome.

Sensitive skin has been our focus at NAYA since day 1. And it is not a trend for us but reality.

We choose skin-kind solvents, buffers and bio-identicals, keep potential irritants low, and recommend a patch test for reactive skin.

Where a % is clinically meaningful or helpful for comparison, we share it. Otherwise, we explain the role and category (natural / bio-identical / biomimetic) and formulate at effective, skin-tolerant levels. Our formulations and complexes are proprietary blends—protecting them protects our IP. But absolutely, we do disclose levels for ingredients like Retinol, Retinal .

We avoid fear lists and focus on formulation science. Practically, we don’t formulate with formaldehyde donors, oxybenzone/octinoxate, or animal-derived raw materials. You can learn more about our No-No List here.
